Meeting JStam and We Have a Winner

Welcome to the final installment of the 10in10 experiment! Week 10 I had a chance to catch up with John Stammerman aka JStam, currently a web administrator for Indiana University. Right away I could tell that John really gets the web, both as a designer and a programmer. It was interesting to see his views on social media, as he has been an early adopter and a ‘behind the scenes’ man for some time now. We chatted about usability, spending time looking at Prezi.com. It was great meeting up with John and hearing about his transition from agency work to University work as well.

John had a fresh perspective on social media, one coming from a social media user, rather than marketer point of view.

Week 6 – Meeting Erin McMahon aka Firestar9s

Believe it or not, Erin McMahon aka Firestar9s is the first woman to be featured in the #10in10 experiment. Erin currently works for the Metro United Way of Louisville. It was a lot of fun speaking with Erin, and hearing about social media activities through the point of view of a non-profit. Erin definitely has a can-do attitude, and is eager to learn social media. Metro United Way is already on the way into the world of social media, as can be seen from the Flickr, Facebook, and YouTube links off the homepage. I first spotted Erin off Twitter, and is one to watch.

Erin asked a lot of specific questions about blogging and her natural curiosity shows a high aptitude for a road to success in social media. It was a pleasure meeting with her, and look forward to speaking with her in the future.

Week 5 – Meeting Scott Hack

It’s been a few weeks since the last 10in10, so let’s get things back in gear.

Had a moment to sit with Scott Hack, a pizza shop owner turned real estate / social media man. Scott’s a great, personable guy and we had an enjoyable discussion about the ins and outs of social media. Originally, I saw Scott on Twitter, and have since then checked out his real estate site, he definitely seems to be ahead of the curve of other real estate professionals. He even put up a post about us meeting before I did!

Scott is one to watch, as he continues to tie together his business skill, personability, and use of social media.

It’s not too late to try to win the Geeks.com 10in10 contest, the person that travels the furthest to meet me wins a iPod Nano!

One-on-One: Meeting Jaime Mack

Meeting Jaime was a bit different from meeting my first two meetups. Prior to meeting, Jaime had asked me via chat if I still wanted to meet up as he was so new to the social media scene. This made me think that this was exactly what 10 in 10 was for! What better a way to get more acquainted with social media for a newbie than meeting with a practitioner one-on-one? Jaime has a regular day job, and for him, social media is more of a past time. He’s most active on Plurk, with a pretty cool user name.

I gave Jaime some tips on getting he way around on social networks, even with limited time, and even some tips on getting a blog underway.

Jaime was local to the area, so Kevin Mason is still in the leader in the Geeks.com 10in10 contest.

Three weeks down, seven to go! Looking forward to meeting more of you in the upcoming weeks!

10 in 10 is Official: iPod Nano Anyone?

So, I’ve suggested on here and a few other places about making the
#10in10 series into a contest. Well boys and girls, it’s official.

Geeks.com has officially sponsored the event, and is offering up
an iPod Nano to the individual that comes from the furthest away!

Currently, the front runner is Kevin Mason with an impressive showing, driving over 3 hours to meet up!

We’re only getting started, moving into week 3 of 10, so there is plenty
of time to try to oust the current leader…good luck everyone!
