What a year it has been. So much has happened this year in social media – arguably 2010 was the year of the infographic. Sure, it isn’t the first time infographics have been abound, but the proliferation of them really made the world of social media stop and take note.

Quite possibly one of the more controversial infographics this year, GOOD and Column Five do a great job showing a distribution of wealth across the USA by religion:

For your movie lovers out there, Column Five Media was asked by MySpace put together a wonderful look inside the mind of a film buff. I personally would have liked to have seen a bit here for film noir, but to each his own:

5 – The iPad: Apple’s Next Gold Rush

Inasmuch that 2010 was the year of the infographic, 2010 was also a killer year for Apple with the advent of the iPad. GigaOm had a great iPad infographic that does a great job showing its meteoric rise:

    I would say these are examples of terrible infographics. Perhaps some nice art, but these examples of poor use of graphics to convey meaning. See Stephen Few’s blog for some great examples and principles for visualizing information in a manner that is concise, interesting and useful.

    Some of the info in these is interesting, but the “best gift by age” one really threw me off. What a sexist infographic…
