Update: we now offer social media infographics to the public.
I’m really fond of infographics. They are a really great way to get a large amount of information in your head – and keep it there.
Ever since the 10 Outstanding Social Media Infographics post we ran a while back, lots of places showed us love. This was a telling sign that we were on to something, so we starting making some of our own infographics.
So what’s this best infographic ever, you’re wondering? Yours.
“But I don’t even have an infographic. I suck at photoshop,” you protest.
Now on to the good stuff. In celebration of you, the creative spirit, we are holding a social media infographic contest!
Here’s how to play:
1 – Leave a comment with your awesome ideas for an infographic (keep it clean, boys and girls). You’ve got until 10/15/10 to add your submission.
2 – We’ll select the 10 best ideas we’d like to see as an infographic.
3 – Everyone votes on the top 10 until 10/31/10. Then, we announce the winner.
4 – 11/8 we will unveil the best idea as a new shiny infographic for one lucky contestant!
Looking forward to seeing what creativity we can build together.
Great idea!! 😉
I had an idea not too long ago to create an infographic on the patriotism/mention of the USA in lyrics in songs. After minoring in American Politics as part of my degree I realised how political American/American bands can be and how known for the patriotism (and also their protests/non-patriotism) a great infographic could be made surrounding the American flag. This would show each star representing a different song from a different artist, some positive (patriotic Amercian lyrics), some negative (protest against American actions lyrics). Examples include Bruce Springsteen – Born In The USA as a patriotic song and Green Day – Wake Me Up When September Ends as a protest (non-patriotic) song…
I would like to seen an infographic on how many people are starting their own businesses when they could not find a job. I also would like to know what industries are most represented.
I love info-graphics too, and love this contest. Brilliant stuff guys, and I know you’ll have a huge, awesome response.
I’d like to see an info-graphic representing the amount of thoughts the average internet surfer has in a day, the subject breakdown for their topics of thought (health, wealth, love, finance, education, etc.) and their emotional-charge (negative, depressed, worried or hopeful, joyful, positive, etc.)
The last info-graphic I made was for Inception on FastCompany, it didn’t win the contest, but I’m fond of it 😀
(I’ll share for any info-graphic lovers:)

Rock the contest!
@Pamela Sisson: thanks! 🙂
@Ned Pouler: sounds like a great idea, thanks for that!
@Jim Stroud: definitely appropriate and representative of our times.
@Jason Fonceca: sweet idea and thanks for sharing your Inception submission from FC. Sorry you didn’t win but sometimes you gain more from putting together the infographic for yourself. I like your interpretation of Inception, by the way 🙂
It’d be cool to represent political races via search terms. For example, how many people are googling Jerry Brown and how many are googling Meg Whitman?
I saw some great stats on international demographics of Facebook users. It would be useful to see these presented in an infographic. Here’s the data: https://www.internetworldstats.com/stats25.htm
Sounds like a good idea.. are there any other prizes?
Thanks for sharing, great contest to stimulate imagination. I think Jason’s idea is pretty good even though it may be a challenge to implement 🙂
How could you leave out xkcd’s fabulous Online Communities Map?? I guess the 2007 version was a bit outdated for the first post, but he went ahead and made a brand new shiny version, just in time for your contest: (https://xkcd.com/802/) It’s pretty much the best thing ever.
